Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Management of Rokona Agro Investment SL Limited, led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO)- Mr. Maxwell Rahman Koroma and Chief Operations Officer (COO) Mr. Ibrahim Conteh and Team paid a courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited to engage with the company’s Local Sourcing Department. The visit marks a significant step in Rokona Agro Investment’s plans to launch a large-scale sorghum plantation and secure a partnership with the brewery as their primary off-taker.
The courtesy visit, held at the Sierra Leone Brewery headquarters, focused on exploring avenues for collaboration and mutual benefits. The brewery’s Local Sourcing Department provided insights into their procurement needs, particularly for sorghum, which is a key ingredient in their production process.
Speaking during the visit, CEO Mr. Maxwell Rahman Koroma emphasized the potential of this partnership to boost local agricultural production and create economic opportunities for farmers. “Our vision is to make Rokona Agro Investment SL a key player in Sierra Leone’s agribusiness sector. By cultivating 150 acres of farmland exclusively for sorghum production, we aim to meet the growing demand for locally sourced raw materials and contribute to the country’s economic development,” he stated.
COO Mr. Ibrahim Conteh added, “This partnership with Sierra Leone Brewery would not only provide a guaranteed market for our sorghum farmers but also align with the brewery’s mission of promoting local sourcing and sustainability. We are optimistic about finalizing an MOU with the brewery to establish a strong foundation for this collaboration.”
Rokona Agro Investment SL is preparing 150 acres of farmland for the sorghum plantation, with plans to expand in the future as demand grows. The project is expected to create job opportunities for local communities, contribute to food security, and enhance Sierra Leone’s agricultural value chain.
The Sierra Leone Brewery team commended Rokona Agro Investment for their proactive approach and commitment to enhancing local agricultural production. Discussions during the visit highlighted the brewery’s long-standing dedication to sourcing ingredients locally and their willingness to support projects that align with this vision.
